WORKERS' TRUST

ERONGO MARINE HARAMBEE

The Erongo Marine Harambee Workers Trust was established in 2017 by Erongo Marine Enterprises to ensure broad-based economic empowerment of the company’s permanent employees, most of whom are employed as fishermen onboard its vessels. Through the Trust, Erongo Marine’s workers were given shares in the horse mackerel right holding company, Arechanab Fishing and Development Company (Pty) Ltd, of which Erongo Marine is a shareholder. The fishermen derive a financial benefit from the allocated quota and thus earn a direct income from this natural resource.

Since 2018, the Trust has annually distributed all declared dividends from Arechanab Fishing equally among its beneficiaries.

2021 SHAREHOLDING EXPANSION

In 2021, the Erongo Marine Harambee Workers Trust expanded its investment portfolio by acquiring a 31% shareholding in Commercial Cold Storage Namibia (CCS), the largest and most advanced cold store in Namibia, located at the port of Walvis Bay. At the time, CCS was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Oceana Group.

In 2023, Oceana sold CCS to African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), a subsidiary of Old Mutual Investments. CCS now forms part of Commercial Cold Holdings (CCH) and is proudly listed by the Global Cold Chain Alliance as one of the top 25 largest refrigerated warehousing and logistics providers in the world.
