Empowering Youth Through Skills Programme
Youth in the small rural town of Usakos, located in Namibia’s Erongo Region, face persistent challenges such as high unemployment, teenage pregnancy, and substance abuse — many of which stem from a lack of local job opportunities.
In response, the Mayor of Usakos launched a transformative Mayoral Empowerment Programme in 2024, aimed at equipping young people with skills through access to vocational education. More than 60 students were enrolled at the National Institute of Mining Technology (NIMT) in Arandis and Anistemi Training College.
Thanks to full funding from sponsors like Erongo Marine Enterprises (EME) and other regional stakeholders, the programme covered tuition, accommodation, and transport costs — removing financial barriers and ensuring equal access for all participants.
EME was honoured to attend the graduation ceremony, where students proudly received certificates in fields such as Hospitality and Tourism, Diesel Mechanics, Welding, Office Administration, Plumbing, Carpentry, and Clothing Production.
Speaking at the event, Erongo Governor Neville Andre Itope hailed the programme as a beacon of hope, praising its potential to unlock opportunity, drive employment, and secure a brighter future for Usakos youth.
Youth empowerment is one of EME’s core corporate social investment focus areas, and we are proud to support initiatives that help build stronger, more resilient communities.
